Directions to
Watermelon Mountain Ranch:
The Ranch is
located on ten acres in northern Rio Rancho, about one mile north of the new
Sue Cleveland High School
on a dirt road. There is no street address to drive to, so please follow the directions below and call the
ranch if you have any questions.
From the South (on NM528):
Go north on NM528 through Rio Rancho. About 6 miles north of
Intel, turn left (west) on Iris Rd. Continue on
Iris to Paseo del Volcan and continue going straight (note - new
traffic circle at Idalia, use caution). See "the
last two miles" below.
From the North (Bernalillo):
Take NM528 south to Idalia Road, turn right. Go approximately 2
miles to the traffic circle, turn right on Iris Rd
(note - this is a new traffic circle at Iris, use caution). Continue to the next
intersection, Paseo del Volcan and continue going straight. See "the last two miles"
below. Note - if you are coming from the east side of
Albuquerque, take I-25 to the Hwy 550 Bernalillo exit, cross the
river, then look for Hwy 528 and use these directions.
From the West (Unser):
From NW Albuquerque or Rio Rancho - take Unser north to Paseo del Volcan
and turn right (east).
Go about 4 miles to the intersection with Westphalia/Iris (the
only signal lights on Paseo del Volcan) and
turn left. See
"the last two miles" below. Note - Unser does
not connect straight through from I-40 to Rio Rancho, there is a section "missing" in Paradise Hills. Check a
map before going through that area.
From Albuquerque, East of the river:
See "From the North" above and consider I-25 to Bernalillo.
"The last two miles"
The city of Rio Rancho is extending Paseo del Volcan to Hwy 550
and have closed the route we've been using for years. Here's the
detour:
Where Iris, Paseo del Volcan
and Westphalia come together (new intersection with signal
lights), go north on Westphalia Blvd - this is the new road to
Sue Cleveland High School. After the road makes a sharp left
curve, look for a "WMR" sign on the right and take the dirt road over the hill.
When you reach the
top of the hill, you will see the ranch ahead of you (photo
above). If you find yourself in front of the school, you missed
the turn.
4WD is advised after heavy rain or snow - the last mile on the dirt road gets
slippery. Go
slow!!.
Please contact
the Ranch directly if you need assistance with navigation:
