Also known as the Cat Lover Fund, your donation will go to our feline house for food, litter, toys and beds for the cats and kittens who live here.

Woof! Your donations will go to the dogs, literally! Food, toys, and everything that makes our dogs lives better while they are at the ranch.

Help fund this important program that educates students with an understanding of the law and the role they serve in their school and community.

A special fund for injured, sick or special needs animals, set up in memory of Don Johnson, a beloved Animal Control Officer from Sandoval County.

This fund helps defray the cost of our spay/neutering, vaccinations and sometimes surgery that is required in preparing animals for adoption.

With all businesses, there are administrative costs, utilities to pay and maintenance. This fund keeps the ranch running smoothly.

Volunteers are at the core of Watermelon Mountain Ranch. Your skills and talents are always in need. There are many ways to help out at the ranch including photographing animals for our website, fostering a dog or cat or a litter or puppies or kittens, transporting animals to our adoption clinics and so much more.

Ready to get involved?

1. Come to the Ranch for a one-hour orientation to learn about the mission, the facility, safety procedures, and how to get started interacting with the animals. Orientations occur every Saturday at noon - except during three-day adoption events (see calendar page).
See the Contact Us page for directions to the Ranch - we don't have an address for you to drive to. Any other map will get you lost - trust me. If you're younger than 15, you will need to bring a parent to the orientation, and they'll also need to be with you while you are volunteering. Ages 15-17 just need a parent's signature on the volunteer form, then they can be left alone with us.

Bring your completed Volunteer Form with you to orientation, no need to fax or mail. Click for the WMR Volunteer Form (print and then complete with a pen)

2. After attending an orientation, volunteers are welcome seven days a week between 9AM and 4PM - no need to call ahead. If you arrive when we are "closed" (before 10AM and all day Mon & Tue), please drive across Progress Blvd (the road the main entrance is on) and then left into the "back entrance" of the parking lot. You may also like to help offsite at mobile adoptions or other events. That's great, too - we really appreciate your help! After the orientation tour, be sure to mention the kinds of work you are most interested in doing.

3. Community Service (court-ordered) can be done at the Ranch if you are 15 or older. Ages 15-17 need a parent's signature on the volunteer form available above. Bring your legal paper too - that's where we record your hours. Required show time is 9AM and you can stay as late as 4PM. You'll probably want to bring a lunch, there's no food nearby. For more information, please call 771-0140.

Below are just some of the jobs we need volunteers for. If there is something different you can offer that is not listed here, please contact us with your talents!

Become a Foster Parent
We always need foster parents to give loving temporary homes to a dog or cat until a permanent home is found. If you feel you have space in your heart and home to be a foster to one of these needy animals, let us know.

Cat Technician

This involves working with the cats who are housed at PetSmart, mobile venues or at the ranch, while they are awaiting adoption. It includes looking after the cats and making sure cages are tidy. Training is provided.

Dog Technician
We need your help to provide TLC, exercise, and companionship, to dogs who are boarded at various locations at the ranch and other locations while awaiting adoption. Training is provided. To help the animals put their best paw forward for adoption clinics, a good bath and brushing go a long way. You don't need to be a dog groomer for this one. Just have a love of animals, and don't mind getting a little wet.

Helping at Adoption Events
Come and join our adoptions team. If you enjoy working with people as well as animals, you can work at our adoption events at the ranch or the many offsite opportunities* and be there to share in the joy of a homeless pet finding a new family.
*Requires training session.

Special Events
We have lots of special events throughout the year that we need to staff. The jobs vary from doing adoptions, answering the public's questions, or walking a dog.

Office Helper
We need your organizational skills to help with record keeping, mailings, typing, computer work, and other administrative tasks.

Construction help
This does not mean you need to know how to build a kennel. We always need people for small construction projects—from putting up chain link fencing to to building temporary pens for special events.

Sewing
If you like to sew, we always have projects we could use help with—from sewing table coverings for special events to bandanas and coats for the animals at adoption clinics.

Gardening
We need help maintaining the grounds at the ranch. If you would like to help keep the facility looking its best, please join us for watering and general projects. Make it a Scouts' project and bring the whole troop out for community service.

If you can help, please email us or phone (505) 771-0140 today!

You can imagine how much dog and cat food we need to feed the animals in our care! Not to mention kitty litter, toys, beds, bowls, even paper towels. And, as we continue with building our facility here at the Ranch, we need construction supplies as well.
